When it all started
Famoco was founded by two French entrepreneurs, Nicolas Berbigier and Lionel Baraban. Nicolas, a graduate of the prestigious École Polytechnique, ENSAE, and LSE, started his career in consulting before launching successful ventures in online travel. Lionel, an expert in startup incubation, led multiple tech initiatives across France, Israel, and Silicon Valley. Together, they created Famoco with a bold vision: deploying secure mobile business solutions across Africa.
From vision to reality
After three years of intensive research & development, Famoco secured its first €1M funding round. This milestone led to the launch of our first AOSP-based business terminal, paired with our device management platform, enabling businesses to remotely manage and secure their device fleets.
The moment everything took off
With two additional funding rounds, Famoco accelerated its growth. Just months later, the company started working with the United Nations, providing secure aid distribution system. This success established Famoco as a key player in digital inclusion, collaborating with NGOs worldwide. In the same year, Famoco began working with Orange on their telecommunications challenges, marking the start of a long-lasting partnership. From that moment on, we never stopped expanding, bringing our technology to new markets, from telecom and transport to logistics and access control.
Building beyond devices
With over 350,000 devices deployed in the field across 54 different countries, we kept growing—expanding our teams and product range to better serve our customers. In our quest to offer an end-to-end solution, we launched Famoco Pay, a softPOS software enabling seamless contactless payments directly on Famoco terminals.
A year of major achievements
Famoco strengthened its presence in telecom by securing a landmark deal with Orange. This project aims to digitize Orange’s distribution network across Africa and the Middle East, with 200,000 agents equipped on the field—a game-changer for digital financial services in the region. That same year, Famoco proved its technology’s reliability on the world stage—powering ticket validation at Paris 2024, where every stadium entry was scanned using Famoco solutions.
