About CNAM
Established by decree on June 25, 2014, CNAM (Caisse Nationale d’Assurance Maladie) is the social protection institution responsible for managing and regulating Universal Health Coverage (CMU) in Côte d’Ivoire. The CMU aims to ensure access to quality healthcare for the entire population residing in Côte d’Ivoire, both nationals and non-nationals, under financially sustainable and affordable conditions.
To implement the CMU, CNAM adopted biometric technology to collect the data required to identify individuals and verify their eligibility for healthcare services across healthcare facilities affiliated with the CMU network.
The company’s operational needs
Before adopting Famoco’s solution, CNAM faced significant challenges in managing its device fleet. Between 2015 and 2017, an initial biometric system had been deployed, but software updates required devices deployed across the country to be physically returned to CNAM’s headquarters. This resulted in significant delays and disruptions to field operations.
In addition, CNAM’s enrollment infrastructure relied on bulky equipment cases and desktop computers, which limited field agents’ mobility and slowed down enrollment campaigns.
What we built together
Famoco addressed these challenges by providing a mobile biometric solution that can be managed remotely, enabling administrators to deploy and update thousands of devices without any physical intervention. Field agents can now conduct door-to-door enrollment campaigns, including in the most remote areas.
In healthcare facilities, the devices make it possible to verify the authenticity of the card and the beneficiary’s eligibility for healthcare services, helping healthcare professionals ensure that services are provided to legitimate beneficiaries.
