Providing Cashless experience at Zando Cape Town 10s with tappit

Client

tappit is a dynamic company specialising in cashless payment solutions for events and permanent venues. Its proprietary platform has been developed over many years to PCI security standards. The solution uses RFID technology and since the product is location neutral, it has been implemented in various territories and within various scale and areas of operations, from the permanent installation of a football stadium in the UK, various sporting and entertainment events in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, music festivals in Hong Kong and Bali, to tournaments in South Africa.

 

Challenge

The 2018 Zando Cape Town 10s is South Africa’s biggest social sport and lifestyle event with over 20,000 spectators and 350 teams. The annual tournament won the 2016 Discovery Sport Industry Award for “Best Live Experience” Event in South Africa, but with a large number of customers to cater to, the event organiser was looking for a solution to minimise queues and quicken transaction process.

The organiser was looking for an RFID payment system to significantly improve customer experience. The overall expectations were to deploy an overall solution that integrated with Quicket and Peach Payments, the ticketing company and payment processing partners; providing a seamless solution that connects the cashless system to event access via ticketing integration, mobile responsive web portal for customers and vendors and transaction processing and reconciliation.

To achieve this, the solution had to be able to work offline and be mobile at the event, be user-friendly for customers, operators and vendors and be able to facilitate the event ecosystem smoothly.

 

Solution

  • 10 425 event attendees were presented with tappit wristbands and cards for event access and transactions onto which they can credit (top-up) and spend funds during the event
  • Fixed points and cashiers for registration, top-up and cash out stations
  • Mobile responsive web portal for customer online account registration, account management to top-up funds, check balance, transactions and auto cash outs
  • Mobile responsive web portal for vendors for live menu uploads and updates
  • System integration with Peach Payments and Quicket for pre-registration and pre-load (pre-event top-up) and post-event cash out features
  • Transaction reconciliation and processing
  • Comprehensive post-event analytics and reporting
  • 94 315 transactions over three days
  • 33 F&B and merchandise vendors with full outlet menu activation
  • 300 Famoco devices deployed ready to use with full training and were used by event organisers to process access + payments

Results

tappit successfully delivered an integrated cashless experience for over 20,000 spectators, 350 teams, 33 vendors and 94,315 transactions over three days.

The overall flow for event access control and cashless delivery was transformed – easier, faster and safer for event organiser, customers and vendors. With the introduction of both online and onsite top-up and cash out processes, payment logistics were simplified and resulted in easy cash management and faster reconciliation for the event organiser.
