Based in Porto (Portugal) Ubirider is dedicated to simplifying public transport, making travel easier for passengers while improving operational efficiency for transport operators and authorities. At the heart of its offering is the SaaS UbiRider Platform, which centralises transport management functions and operational data typically spread across fragmented systems.

The company’s operational needs

UbiRider relies on devices capable of running ticketing, validation and payment applications in demanding transport environments. Before partnering with Famoco, the company faced several limitations with its previous provider due to limited processing capacity, insufficient remote device management and a  lack of responsive and operational customer support. These constraints slowed down deployments, limited UbiRider’s ability to support operators remotely, and reduced overall operational efficiency. UbiRider then aimed to enable faster, plug-and-play deployments and provide remote assistance capabilities.

What we built together

The UbiRider platform is connected to operational applications in order to collect all the data required to provide real-time insights on transport network operations and vehicle service execution. Through the platform’s back office, transport authorities can monitor and assess the overall effectiveness of public transport services.

To support its transport operations, UbiRider deploys Famoco professional devices, such as onboard validation terminals and the Famoco Tap & Go mobile device, all connected to a centralized fleet management platform (MDM).

• Famoco professional terminals are ruggedized and designed to meet the constraints of real-world transport environments. They run on a tailored Android operating system aligned with UbiRider’s technical requirements. The Famoco OS ensures full data sovereignty.

• Through the MDM platform, device fleets are fully managed remotely. The platform enables large-scale configuration of devices, including usage policies and application deployment. Beyond simplifying deployments, it centralizes technical device data (location, battery status, last use, etc) and supports operational teams remotely through features like remote control, messaging, and the definition of alerts (for example, in case of devices leaving a predefined area).
  

Thanks to this joint solution, which can be deployed quickly, both operators and passengers benefit from significant time savings and improved comfort. It actively contributes to the development of public transport usage, including in more remote or isolated areas, such as islands — for example, Faial Island in the Azores.
